WiiWare: Lost Winds May 16, 2008
Posted by xerocube in : Arcade, Review, Wii , add a commentLet me start by saying I have not tried Lost Winds yet. I had little intention on trying it either. That is, until I read this writeup on Gamasutra.com. From there, I linked across to MetaCritic to see what they had compiled (an impressive 84 out of 100).
My initial impressions of WiiWare was that it was attempting to cash in on the success of the Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network games. In conjunction with my general apathetic view towards most Wii titles, I figured I could just pass this one up.
However, the opening line of Gamasutra’s write-up has changed my mind.
…a $10 WiiWare launch title from UK developer Frontier (Thrillville) that critics describe as “better than a lot of $49.99 Wii games.”
I encourage you to jump over and read the rest of the article. This could be the start of a very good thing for the Wii.

Walmart Pre-order Prices — Too good to be true? January 11, 2008
Posted by xerocube in : News, Playstation 3, Promos & Events, Wii, XBOX 360 , add a commentUPDATE (2:47pm): It appears that these “deals” are dead for the time being, with items “no longer being found.” These could be fantastic deals, if the prices were true. If a pricing mistake, then hopefully too many people didn’t abuse it.

The tubes (SlickDeals.net, Joystiq.com, many others) are a buzzin’ with some spectacular deals on videos games over at Wal-Mart. That is, if these are indeed the actual prices you end up paying for your pre-orders. The deals all across the map for next-gen games: Wii, 360, PS3.
Wii Review: Ninjabread Man October 10, 2007
Posted by xerocube in : Action, Adventure, Review, Wii , add a commentCandy Land is under attack by evil cakes, bees, and jellied monsters. This sounds like a job for Ninjabread Man! So goes the premise of the action platformer for the Wii.
The concept of the game, a gingerbread man with mad ninja skills, hooked me from the advertising. The game title alone warranted a rental. Sadly, in the 20 minutes I devoted to playing, this game has not lived up to my expectations. (more…)

Wii in 30% of US Households February 22, 2007
Posted by xerocube in : News, Wii , add a commentGamasutra News reports today of an interesting Wall Street Journal article predicting that 30% of US Households will have a Wii by 2011. I would go into more detail here, but it’d be better for you to just read the article yourself.
From Gamasutra: Merrill Lynch: Wii In 30% Of U.S. Households By 2011
This to me would be great news, if it were to happen. But if so, Nintendo may want to enhance the current social networking capabilities of the Wii in order to capitalize on a greater install base.
Review – Wii Play February 16, 2007
Posted by xerocube in : Party, Review, Wii , add a commentYesterday, I purchased my third Wii game: Wii Play. It is packaged with a Wii Remote, so it’s worth it one way or the other. I have been excited about this game, since I heard it had a Billiards game included. Not only that, but table tennis! So here’s my thoughts: 9 mini-games, 1 remote control – both for $50. Heck, I needed an extra controller anyway, which at $40 MSRP, makes the game essentially $10. I convinced myself of the need to buy the game.
