It’s been a while since I have been genuinely interested in an Unreal Tournament map. If this trailer is even remotely on point, then we all have something to look forward to in the world of UT3.

DM-Spectrum from Matthew Bradley on Vimeo.

Matt Bradley goes on to say:

The initial concept for Spectrum was to subvert traditional deathmatch playstyles by forcing the player to use lights to navigate and kill enemies. The level is completely designed around this idea, thusly it has a fairly simple layout. There are 3 floors, the 2nd and 3rd floor open out onto the main hall in order for the coloured cubes to be easily visible for most of the time. Most of the walls are curved in order to help the player get out of trouble even if they are running directly into a wall. Every boundary has a smaller white light to signify it.

The cubes also serve a purpose. They help to keep the level paced. Each coloured cube represents a different area of the map. These areas are colour-co-ordinated to match the cubes. When a player is in one of these areas the corresponding cube lights up notifying other players. As one learns the map they should be able to find enemies without too much hardship.

The buzz this is creating should lead to an interesting payout. Let’s hope Matt has great success with this and starts a new modding push in the community.

Great news from Bethesda! They’ve announced the release date for Fallout 3. I have always been a huge fan of the Fallout IP and have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new installment. From the press release:

Bethesda Softworks

Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, announced today that its highly anticipated title, Fallout® 3, will be available on store shelves and online in North America on October 28, 2008 and in Europe on October 31, 2008.

More information comes from Amazon.com in terms of pricing and editions. There will be three editions to the game: Standard, Collector’s, and, the Amazon.com exclusive, Survival editions for the XBOX 360, PS3, and the PC. I can’t tell you which to get, though I know the 360 and PC versions has been confirmed to get DLC expansions later on. I can only guess that it will be available for the PS3 some months later.

I’m heading over there myself to give this game a whirl – Nature versus Technology always intrigues me. Let me know how you experience with the demo has been, then we can see if Xero get sto run to start in March to pick up the full thing.

I have to say that it’s rare I find something that intrigues me in the gaming world by title alone. However, I have just been pointed to a game that does just that. I bring you:

Ninja Loves Pirate

Here’s the synopsis of the game, from what I can tell… you control a ninja or a pirate in a battle of the ages against zombies and robots. How awesome is that??? Plus, it takes me back to a golden age of gaming where the 16-bit side-scrollers were king. But that is just me…

Anyway, give it a look — it should entertain you to say the least.
