Home Console Power Consumption February 22, 2007

Posted by xerocube in : Hardware, News, Systems , trackback

Have you ever wondered how much power your home consoles consume? Well, I have, but have been too lazy (not too mention cheap) to go purchase a power meter in order to find out. Well, the fine folks at hardCORE have taken it upon themselves to compare the Wii, the XBOX 360, the PS3, and a gaming PC in terms of power consumption. They compare power usage through game play, idle time, DVD playback, and Standby (just plugged in) modes.

It looks as though the Wii “wins” hands down in terms of power consumption, for those of you who are environment minded.

Personally, I learned something new in that the Wii uses more power than other systems when in Standby mode when Connect24 is turned on. Since I can wait to turn on the system to get system messages, I plan to turn this feature  off when I get home this evening. Remember, I am cheap, so I want to save those extra pennies (USD) a month.

Head over to hardCORE to read the details: Power Consumption in Today’s Consoles.
